I love memes. Can’t you tell? I even have a category for them.
For this one, Karen over at Only Sometimes Clever tagged me. Karen is my only virtual friend, and I really enjoy reading her blog. She is a devout Christian, a homeschooler (and more importantly, a lover of learning) and a mommy of 5 (just barely! her beautiful baby girl is just days old).
Anyway, here goes – seven random things:
1. I refuse to buy new books. I consistently make the rounds of all the Goodwills in the area – they have their paperbacks for 59 cents and their hardbacks for 99 cents. You’d be surprised what I find… all manner of Scholastic kids books, curriculum, Christian books, cookbooks. I recently decided to start doing Before Five in a Row with Mikaela, and I’ve been looking for the books that go along with the curriculum at our local Goodwill stores. I’ve had a fair amount of success, finding 5 of the books in one day alone. Hey, it sure beats paying huge prices for the same books online or in Barnes & Noble!
2. I am currently on a low-carb diet and I’m always looking for super-low-carb things I can make that give me a break from the monotony of egg whites and lean meat. Tonight I tried 1/4 cup of reduced-fat ricotta with a splenda packet and 3/4 teaspoon of raspberry sugar-free Torani. It was nasty and satisfying at the same time.
3. I can’t hold my breath for very long. Like, maybe 30 seconds, tops, before I start blacking out. I always lost the breath-holding contests at my neighborhood friend’s pool as a kid. Thankfully, this requirement was never on any of my job applications.
4. Don’t you get really annoyed by people who don’t use their blinkers? Specifically, I hate when I’m waiting for a car to pass before I can turn right … only to find out that car was turning onto the very street I’m on. Thanks a lot, people.
5. The sound of airplanes flying overhead is oddly comforting to me. I grew up about 13 miles from the Birmingham International Airport, directly in the path that the planes took when coming in for a landing. I have very few planes near where I am, so it kind of makes me sad. My mother thinks I’m nuts in this respect (and probably otherwise, but that’s another post) – she grumbles about having to go wipe the tire tracks off the roof.
6. If I was just a hair zanier, I would dye my hair cotton-candy blue and pierce my nose. I just may get a wild hair and do either someday.
7. I’m not really a fiction person, book-wise. I can very occasionally get into one, but I’d much rather be learning about something. Right now I’m reading one of Jay’s history textbooks, about the progressive era. I used to think history was dreadfully boring, but now that I’m older it is intriguing.
Was that random enough for you? If not, the next two posts are free of charge.
